Goa BJP Councillor’s Son Arrested on POCSO Charges as Crime Branch Takes Over Probe

The state Crime Branch now leads a case built on survivor reports supported by seized phones.

Overview

  • Naik, 20, was taken into custody Sunday night after crowds demanded action outside a South Goa police station, and a local court has remanded him to four days of police custody.
  • Police have booked him under POCSO, India’s child-protection law, as well as the Information Technology Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, and the Goa Children’s Act.
  • Following new survivor statements, two additional FIRs were registered Tuesday and the investigation was transferred to the state Crime Branch for a wider probe.
  • Investigators seized the accused’s mobile devices for forensic analysis, and a senior officer said no survivors appear in the clips recovered so far as cases are being built on formal complaints.
  • Reports differ on the number of girls affected, with police sources citing at least 14 and AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal alleging up to 30, while FIRs describe coercion, recordings, and threats over Instagram dating back about three years.
