Go Raw Expands Recall to Add Steve’s Real Food Lot Over Low Vitamin B1 Risk

The FDA says the added lot may be low in thiamine, a deficiency that can cause serious neurologic illness in pets.

Overview

  • The FDA issued an updated notice on Monday, June 8, that Go Raw LLC expanded a voluntary recall to include Lot C26022 of Steve’s Real Food Chicken Recipe Freeze Dried.
  • The affected product is sold in 1.25-pound beige, zip‑locked bags with UPC 6-91730-16402-7 and a best-by date of January 22, 2028.
  • Go Raw says the lot was distributed through retail stores in roughly 20 states and the company believes the product is no longer in distribution; no illnesses have been reported for this lot to date.
  • Thiamine (vitamin B1) is essential for carbohydrate metabolism and nerve function, and prolonged deficiency can cause vomiting, loss of appetite, ataxia, seizures, and in severe cases life-threatening neurologic damage, with cats especially vulnerable.
  • Consumers should stop feeding the product, return it to the place of purchase for a refund, and contact a veterinarian if a pet shows symptoms; the expansion follows a February recall of other chicken-based raw products and highlights recurring safety and nutritional risks with raw pet foods.
