GM Recalls 43,732 2022 Chevy, GMC and Cadillac SUVs for Rear-Wheel Lockup Risk

Dealers will load TCM software to detect valve wear, capping shifts at fifth on fault.

Overview

  • Recall targets 2022 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL, plus Escalade and Escalade ESV equipped with the ETRS shift-by-wire 10-speed system.
  • Most affected SUVs were built between May 10 and July 19, 2022, while 2023 and later models are excluded due to factory-installed software.
  • The update enables monitoring that can flag excessive valve wear roughly 10,000 miles before a potential lockup and triggers warnings with reduced propulsion in fifth gear.
  • Owner notification letters are scheduled for March 30, 2026, and the dealer software update will be provided at no charge with eligibility checkable via the NHTSA VIN tool.
  • GM reported 13 field claims alleging rear-wheel lockup since late 2023, and a separate notice addresses 1,055 trucks that previously received an incorrect TCM software version.
