Global Streaming Subscriptions Hit $157.1 Billion in 2025 as Ad Tiers Reshape Growth

Analysts say services now focus on raising revenue per viewer through price hikes with ad-supported options.

Overview

  • Ampere Analysis reported Monday that streaming subscriptions generated $157.1 billion in 2025.
  • Revenue rose 14% last year and has tripled since 2020, when subscriptions totaled about $50 billion.
  • Ad-supported plans accounted for 28% of subscription streamer revenue in 2025, lifting the global total with ads to $177 billion, roughly $20 billion of that from advertising.
  • The U.S. produced half of all 2025 subscription revenue, with Netflix the largest contributor after a price increase early in the year pushed its U.S. take up 14%.
  • Ampere projects subscriptions to reach about $202 billion by 2030 and ads to add $42 billion a year, a shift that could bring higher monthly prices or more ads for viewers and more ad inventory for marketers.
