Overview
- Two gliders collided over Dietfurt an der Altmühl on Thursday afternoon and one pilot bailed out with a parachute while the other landed a damaged glider at Beilngries airfield.
- The 31-year-old pilot who jumped was found in woodland with light injuries and taken to hospital, and the 63-year-old who landed was treated by paramedics at the airfield.
- Separately, an ultralight near Waitzdorf attempted a forced landing around 19:50 and crashed on a meadow after a reported technical defect, leaving the 50-year-old pilot severely injured and flown to a clinic.
- Fire crews, emergency medical teams and local volunteers responded to both scenes and in the ultralight case residents helped extinguish an engine fire before crews arrived.
- Police in Parsberg and the Polizeidirektion Pirna have opened probes that will examine flight paths, maintenance records and witness statements and the results will determine whether changes to local low‑altitude procedures are needed.
