Overview
- Gkids announced on Thursday, July 2, 2026, that it has acquired theatrical, home-video, TV and digital rights to Studio Ghibli’s 23-film library for the U.K. and Ireland.
- The first title under the agreement will be an IMAX release of Kiki’s Delivery Service on August 21, 2026, with additional IMAX dates already planned.
- Goodfellas keeps streaming rights for the territories and has licensed those rights to Netflix, so the films will appear on Netflix while Gkids handles theatrical and disc releases.
- Gkids will work with Anime Limited, recently acquired by parent Toho Global, and has announced new 4K remasters and a full home-video and digital re-release starting in fall 2026.
- The shift extends Gkids’ long-standing Ghibli role from North America to the U.K. and Ireland and could increase cinema access and collector releases for fans who have seen limited availability in recent years.
