Overview
- Jefferson City police were dispatched around 1:09 a.m. on Feb. 23 to an off-campus residence and found 23-year-old Kevaughn Goldson with stab wounds to his chest and back.
- Goldson was taken to a local emergency room and then airlifted to University Hospital, where he died during surgery.
- Cole County prosecutors charged fellow student-athlete Denita Jackson with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, and she is jailed without bond with no court hearings yet scheduled.
- A probable-cause affidavit says Jackson told police she unlocked a roommate’s door with a hair clip, found Goldson in bed with the roommate clothed, a fight ensued, and she stabbed him after claiming he choked her.
- Court documents reference an alleged on-scene admission by Jackson and prior domestic incidents between the pair, and Lincoln University has expressed condolences and directed students to counseling resources.
