Gilla Band Announce Pugnello, Their First Album in Four Years

Self-produced and mixed by bassist Daniel Fox, the record is due Sept. 25 with an international tour planned.

Overview

  • The band announced Pugnello and released the single and Cuan Roche-directed video for “Placeholder” on Tuesday, and opened pre-orders for the album.
  • Pugnello was recorded between 2022 and 2026 in three Dublin studios and was produced by Gilla Band with Daniel Fox handling recording and mixing.
  • The 10-track album includes the previously released single “Giraffe” and the new single “Placeholder,” which singer Dara Kiely frames as a reflection on childhood nostalgia and comfort distractions.
  • Gilla Band will promote the album with North American and European tour dates and two intimate UK shows in October—Manchester’s White Hotel on Oct. 7 and London’s ICA in-the-round on Oct. 8.
  • The release ends a four-year gap since 2022’s Most Normal and builds on members’ solo work and collaborations, continuing the group’s idiosyncratic noise‑rock approach that mixes abrasive electronics with lyrical focus on memory and mental health.
