Overview
- GHECO, which reached a final investment decision Wednesday, marked one of the UK’s first green hydrogen FIDs and will now start building the 30 MW Barrow plant.
- The Schroders Greencoat–Carlton Power joint venture owns the project, and Plug Power will supply 30 MW of GenEco PEM electrolyzers as Barrow moves into execution.
- The project holds a government-backed Low Carbon Hydrogen Agreement from the first allocation round, with the Low Carbon Contracts Company as the long-term counterparty.
- Renewable electricity will come through a long-term power purchase agreement with SEFE to run the plant’s electrolysis.
- Hydrogen production will serve Kimberly-Clark’s Barrow factory, aiming to halve its gas use and avoid about 18,300 tonnes of CO2 each year.
