Overview
- The Berekum Chelsea squad, returning from a league match, was ambushed Sunday night on the Bibiani–Goaso road near Ahyiresu when gunmen blocked the highway and opened fire.
- The driver tried to reverse and the bus skidded into roadside bushes, players fled into the vegetation, and 20-year-old Dominic Frimpong was shot in the head and died at a hospital in Bibiani.
- Ghana Police said an operation is under way to find and arrest the attackers, who were reported as a group of six armed men.
- Most teammates who scattered during the attack reached Berekum safely hours later on a replacement bus provided by Bibiani GoldStars.
- The Ghana Football Association offered condolences and said it will work with clubs to review and strengthen travel security, noting similar highway attacks on teams in recent years.
