  • Meehan played in 670 NHL games over parts of 10 seasons, served as the Sabres’ captain from 1971 to 1974, and recorded a career-high 64 points with the Washington Capitals in 1976–77.
  • After earning a law degree, he rejoined the Sabres as assistant general manager in 1984 and succeeded Scotty Bowman as general manager in 1986, later serving as executive vice president through 1996.
