Germany’s Factory Order Backlog Rises a Fourth Month in November

Large vehicle bookings helped by easing bottlenecks signal tentative industrial stabilization.

  • Destatis reports the real manufacturing order backlog rose 1.8% from October and 5.9% from a year earlier in November 2025.
  • The increase was led by “other vehicle construction” on the back of large orders, with additional gains in autos (+3.0%) and mechanical engineering (+1.1%).
  • Open domestic orders advanced 3.6% on the month, outpacing a 0.9% rise in foreign backlogs.
  • The backlog’s coverage, or “Reichweite,” climbed to 8.0 months overall, reaching 11.0 months for investment-goods producers.
  • Ifo says the share of firms facing material shortages fell to 7.5% in December, and Destatis shows hospitality sales rose 2.5% in November but were 1.2% below a year earlier.
