Germany Rail Works to Shut Berlin Stadtbahn for Six Months and Upend Frankfurt Services in May

Months of track work will thin service across key corridors.

Overview

  • Deutsche Bahn will block the Frankfurt-Forsthaus to Frankfurt-Niederrad line from Friday at 9 p.m. until June 1 at 5 a.m., which diverts long‑distance trains away from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and shifts many stops to Frankfurt Süd or the airport station.
  • A second Frankfurt closure from May 29 at 9 p.m. to June 2 at 5 a.m. cancels RB58 shuttles and drops Hauptbahnhof stops for ICE services toward Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Amsterdam and Brussels.
  • Berlin’s east–west Stadtbahn regional and long‑distance tracks will close from June 14 until the December 12 timetable change, cutting frequencies, rerouting trains through the Nord‑Süd‑Tunnel and removing selected stops such as every fourth Berlin–Hamburg ICE.
  • S‑Bahn service on the Stadtbahn will halt on three weekends — June 26–28, July 24–26 and July 31–August 2 — and local reporting warns of crush loads at central stations during major events like the CSD.
  • Across Bavaria and Munich, May–June works bring repeated suspensions and bus replacement services, including three May shutdowns of Munich’s S‑Bahn trunk line and ongoing upgrades on corridors such as NürnbergRegensburg.
