Germany Lowers Gulf Travel Warning, Clearing the Way for Flights and Bookings

The downgrade removes automatic rights to free cancellations for many package trips.

Overview

  • Germany’s Foreign Office on Monday lifted its highest travel warning for Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, replacing it with a strong advisory against travel because the security risk remains volatile.
  • The UAE said its airspace is fully open again, and Emirates announced it has restored service to all destinations.
  • The change shifts decisions on package trips back to tour operators, with Tui saying bookings and routings via Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha are available again.
  • Travel lawyer Paul Degott said a formal warning usually lets customers cancel without fees, but an advisory often does not, so travelers may now need extra justification to withdraw.
  • Germany first issued the warning in late February after regional attacks tied to the US, Israel and Iran, and a ceasefire has since eased fighting though officials still caution that new restrictions and flight disruptions are possible.
