Germany Launches Speedweek With 24-Hour Blitzermarathon on Wednesday

Experts doubt lasting impact beyond the 24-hour push.

Overview

  • The nationwide Speedweek, which began Monday, brings stepped-up speed checks through April 19 with a 24-hour enforcement drive on Wednesday, April 15.
  • Most states are taking part, Saarland opted out, several limit action to Wednesday, and Berlin is joining the campaign this time.
  • Bavaria plans about 1,570 speed-measurement sites and roughly 2,000 staff with locations published in advance, and Hesse has listed more than 230 sites with around 570 personnel.
  • Police will focus on crash‑prone stretches and sensitive spots such as school zones, hospitals, and construction areas, with fines, points, and possible driving bans, and drivers may not use active speed-camera warning apps while driving.
  • The checks are part of Roadpol’s Europe‑wide campaign and will run again in Germany from August 3 to 9.
