Germany Contributes €60 Million to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund in Unannounced Kyiv Visit

The move is intended to speed delivery of critical power equipment before winter.

  • German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche arrived in Kyiv on Oct. 24 for meetings with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, as well as energy and defense firms.
  • Berlin’s €60 million payment to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund will accelerate procurement of generators, energy equipment, and mobile thermal power plants.
  • The sides agreed to establish a joint energy working group, expand industrial cooperation, and hold a Ukrainian–German business forum in Berlin in December.
  • Reiche said Germany will help restore damaged power systems and connect German technology companies, including drone specialists, with Ukrainian industry.
  • Shmyhal said a previously announced €9 billion assistance package from Germany is expected to bolster Ukraine’s capabilities next year.
