German Skier Victoria Carl Banned 18 Months After Clenbuterol Positive

The non-final ruling opens a path to appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Overview

  • Germany’s anti-doping agency said Thursday that the independent German Sports Arbitration Court handed Carl an 18-month suspension.
  • The ban runs until November 25, 2026 because time served under her May 26, 2025 provisional suspension counts, which cost her the 2026 Olympics but sets up a possible 2026–27 return.
  • All results she earned from March 26 to May 26, 2025 were voided, which strips medals, points, and prize money.
  • Clenbuterol, a banned drug often used for breathing problems, was found in a sample at the Military World Championships, and Carl says a military team doctor gave her a cough syrup that contained it.
  • NADA said the decision is not yet binding and can be appealed to CAS by Carl, NADA, the ski and military federations, or WADA.
