German Shepherd Kills Bobcat After String of Prescott Attacks

Authorities call the behavior unusual for bobcats, urging residents to report pet attacks to state wildlife officials.

Overview

  • The homeowner’s German shepherd, which intervened Monday morning, killed the bobcat and is now under veterinary care.
  • The first attack was reported Sunday around 6 p.m. near Inscription Canyon Drive, and deputies said the victim suffered significant injuries and was hospitalized.
  • Two more attacks followed Monday morning on Green Brier Drive and in a nearby neighborhood more than seven miles from the first site.
  • Hospitals are treating three people, including the dog’s owner, for cuts and bites, and officials ask pet owners to seek vet care and call Arizona Game and Fish if their animals were hurt.
  • Deputies are investigating a possible fourth incident involving another dog, and they say it likely involved the same bobcat though that has not been confirmed.
