German Pride Parades Grow Political as Organisers Prepare for Counterprotests

Organisers are using larger, formal parades to push voter turnout ahead of Berlin’s regional election.

Overview

  • CSD Berlin will run over two days on July 24–25 and organisers expect hundreds of thousands of attendees with 83 vehicles and 55 foot groups registered for the main demonstration.
  • The Berlin programme uses the slogan “Haltung ist hot” to urge people, especially young voters, to show political stance and vote in the Abgeordnetenhaus election on September 20.
  • Frankfurt’s 34th CSD on July 18 has 120 registered demonstration groups and will deploy the Safe now app to make the event’s awareness team reachable by phone.
  • Leipzig’s CSD expects about 20,000 participants and has announced lane closures and other traffic restrictions for its inner‑ring parade and street festival.
  • Police and organisers are preparing tightened security after recent small but aggressive right‑wing actions; a counter‑demonstration by youth groups Jägertrupp and Deutsche Patrioten Voran is registered for July 25 and authorities have opened investigations into hate speech at earlier CSD counterprotests.
