German Manufacturing Backlog Rises 1.2% in December as Work Horizon Reaches 8.2 Months

Other vehicle construction led the gains.

  • Destatis reported a seasonally and calendar adjusted 1.2% month-on-month increase in the real manufacturing order backlog for December 2025, up 7.0% from a year earlier on a calendar adjusted basis.
  • Domestic backlogs rose 3.0% from November, while foreign orders were unchanged.
  • 'Other vehicle construction' increased by 4.5% and metal products by 5.4%, whereas the automotive industry backlog fell 2.9%.
  • The backlog reach lengthened to 8.2 months overall, with investment goods at 11.2 months, intermediate goods at 4.4 months, and consumer goods at 3.9 months.
  • Figures are price-adjusted to a 2021=100 base and seasonally and calendar adjusted using X13 JDemetra+, with Saarland data estimated in the national totals.
