German Helpline for Violence Against Women Records More Than 69,500 Contacts in 2025

Officials say the jump reflects greater help-seeking through online, anonymous, multilingual support

Overview

  • The Bundesamt reported on Monday that the Hilfetelefon "Gewalt gegen Frauen" received over 69,500 contacts in 2025, averaging about 190 consultations per day and setting a new annual high.
  • Contacts rose year on year with total contacts up 11 percent, counselling contacts up 14 percent, and consultations about gender‑based violence up 17 percent compared with 2024.
  • Domestic and (ex‑)partner violence was the single largest category with 32,186 contacts, while sexualized violence, psychological violence, physical violence and stalking accounted for substantial smaller shares.
  • Use of online channels grew sharply with e‑mail and chat consultations increasing by 43 percent, showing a clear shift toward non‑phone, lower‑threshold access.
  • The service operates 24/7 at 116 016 and online, is free, anonymous and offered in 18 languages with barrier‑free formats, and officials say rising contacts point to more people finding and using those support routes rather than to a single cause for violence levels.
