- Gov. Brian Kemp ordered a July 28 special election to fill Georgia’s 13th District for the rest of the current term.
- Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger set qualifying for May 11–13 with a $5,220 fee, a June 29 voter registration deadline, early voting starting July 6, and an Aug. 25 runoff if no one wins a majority.
- Marcye Scott said she will run to finish her father’s term, and Democrat Everton Blair also announced a special bid.
- The special election selects a short-term representative who will serve only until January 2027, as the May 19 primary, any June 19 runoff, and November general decide the next full term.
- David Scott’s name remains on already printed primary ballots, but officials said votes for him will not be counted in that race.
