Georgia Man Arrested in 1986 Lawrenceville Rape Cases After DNA Breakthrough

A genealogical DNA profile developed with Othram guided investigators to a suspect.

Overview

  • Glenn Daniel Plybon, 60, was arrested at his Oglethorpe County home on March 18 and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail without bond on three rape charges.
  • Authorities say multiple adult women were sexually assaulted in their apartments in Lawrenceville and unincorporated Gwinnett County during the summer of 1986.
  • The GBI Cold Case Unit contacted Lawrenceville police in June 2025 to pursue CODIS leads and assist with a renewed review of the evidence.
  • In July 2025, investigators partnered with Texas-based Othram for advanced DNA testing that enabled investigative genetic genealogy and led to Plybon’s identification as a suspect.
  • The investigation remains active, and the case will be referred to the Gwinnett County district attorney for prosecution as officials continue to request tips from the public.
