Genetic Tests Tie 12 Listeriosis Cases, Two Deaths, to Drôme Ardèche Tradition Charcuterie

A prefectural suspension enables a supervised withdrawal of cooked charcuterie sold 17 January to 28 February.

Overview

  • Laboratory analyses confirmed on 10 March a Listeria strain on a company product genetically matching patient samples, leading health ministries and Santé publique France to announce the link on 12 March.
  • Authorities suspended Drôme Ardèche Tradition’s Bourg-de-Péage facility after DDPP traceability work on 24 February and are overseeing the withdrawal and recall.
  • The recall targets caillettes, pâtés en croûte and other cooked charcuteries distributed between 17 January and 28 February under the names Drôme salaisons, Jules Courtial or with no brand.
  • Twelve people were hospitalized between September 2025 and January 2026, with a median age of 81, including eight bacteraemias, three neuromeningeal cases and one materno‑neonatal case; two patients over 75 with comorbidities died.
  • Health agencies advise not to consume the implicated products and to seek medical care for fever or related symptoms, noting incubation can extend to nearly three months, while the company says it has halted production and begun decontamination and audits under oversight.
