Overview
- University College London analyzed a longitudinal cohort of nearly 10,000 people born between 2000 and 2002.
- Binge drinking and trying hard drugs roughly tripled between ages 17 and 23 in the same individuals.
- At 23, 68% reported binge drinking in the past year, with 29% doing so monthly or more versus 10% at 17.
- About half had tried cannabis by 23, and roughly one in three had used harder drugs such as cocaine, ketamine or ecstasy.
- Daily vaping rose from 3% to 19% and 32% reported gambling in the past year, with higher risks among men and university attendees as the lead author urged policy action.
