GeM Forward Auctions Realise Over Rs 2,200 Crore in Government Asset Sales

The commerce ministry says the Forward Auction module has matured into a nationwide digital system for disposing public assets.

Overview

  • Between December 2021 and November 2025, the platform conducted more than 13,000 auctions that collectively crossed Rs 2,200 crore.
  • GeM reported over 23,000 registered bidders and participation from more than 17,000 auctioneers on the module.
  • Listed assets ranged from scrap, e-waste and old vehicles to machinery and leasehold properties, with departments setting reserve prices and tracking bids in real time.
  • Example transactions included SBI’s sale of 100 EWS flats in Lucknow for Rs 34.53 crore and screened gypsum worth Rs 3.35 crore by FCI Aravali Gypsum and Minerals India.
  • Agencies such as the National Zoological Park used the process to clear pending disposals, with the ministry citing improved transparency, efficiency and value discovery.
