Geekbench 7 Redesigns CPU and GPU Tests to Reflect Modern AI and Media Workloads

Primate Labs says the update will give more realistic performance results and requires users to rerun benchmarks because Geekbench 7 scores do not match the prior version.

Overview

  • Primate Labs released Geekbench 7 on Thursday, July 23, 2026, making the new app available for macOS, iOS, Android, Windows, and Linux.
  • The multi-core methodology was overhauled so a test runs across multiple threads only when the real application being modeled is multithreaded, a change meant to make multi-core scores reflect everyday software behavior.
  • New CPU and GPU workloads model contemporary tasks such as AV1 screen-share encoding, Opus audio compression, Whisper-based live captions, image upscaling, face tracking, and a Jolt-based Game Physics test.
  • The GPU suite shifts toward machine-learning and content-creation tasks and adds NVIDIA CUDA alongside OpenCL, Vulkan, and Metal so Nvidia cards can be measured with their native API.
  • Because Geekbench 7 uses larger datasets and a new scoring baseline, prior Geekbench 6 results are not comparable and reviewers, vendors, and users will need to rerun tests to build fresh baselines; a Pro license is available at a 20% launch discount through August 6, 2026.
