Gears of War: E‑Day Set for Oct. 6 as Xbox Console and PC Exclusive

Its Unreal Engine 5 rebuild, redesigned multiplayer and day‑one Game Pass availability signal a strategic push by Xbox toward first‑party exclusives.

Overview

  • Xbox announced Sunday that Gears of War: E‑Day will launch on October 6, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC (Steam and Microsoft Store) and will not appear on PlayStation consoles.
  • The game is being built by The Coalition in partnership with People Can Fly and was rebuilt from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 with all-new character models, weapons, animation and audio.
  • E‑Day is a mainline prequel set 14 years before the original title that follows young Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago during Emergence Day in the city of Kalona.
  • Multiplayer will return to core Gears modes while expanding them with a new 12-player PvE mode called Horde Siege, classic 4v4 Versus, an open beta starting August 6 with pre-order early access, and a Collector’s Edition that grants play five days early on October 1.
  • Xbox will offer the game day one on Xbox Game Pass, a move that locks the franchise more tightly to Microsoft’s holiday release calendar and excludes PlayStation players while offering immediate access to Game Pass subscribers.
