Gaza Death Toll Nears 73,100 as Ceasefire Breaches Continue

Health authorities warn repeated Israeli strikes during the truce are deepening a humanitarian collapse that is blocking aid and rescue efforts.

Overview

  • Gaza’s Health Ministry reported on Monday that the cumulative death toll since October 2023 is about 73,098 and total injuries are near 173,571, with five fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours.
  • The U.S.-brokered ceasefire that began on October 10, 2025 remains formally in place but the ministry says over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and thousands wounded by strikes, drone attacks and demolitions during the truce.
  • Medical and local sources named recent victims, saying an Israeli drone strike in the Zeitoun neighborhood killed Mohammad Najib Ashour and that two bodies identified as Bilal Hussein Abu Rabia and Hamza Imad Hamdouna were recovered in Beit Lahia.
  • Gaza authorities say roughly 90% of civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, the U.N. estimates reconstruction will cost about $70 billion, and officials say Israel is restricting agreed deliveries of food, medicine and shelter supplies for about 2.4 million people.
  • Diplomatic mediation remains stalled over Hamas disarmament and Israeli withdrawal demands, and rights groups and regional incidents such as rising West Bank settler violence increase pressure on prospects for reconstruction and accountability.
