Gateway Church Founder Robert Morris Released From Oklahoma Jail After Six-Month Sentence

The release triggers a 9.5-year probation under a plea that also requires lifetime sex offender registration.

Overview

  • Osage County records show Morris left the Pawhuska jail early Tuesday after serving six months under his plea to abusing Cindy Clemishire in the 1980s.
  • In October 2025, he admitted to five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child and received a 10-year suspended sentence with lifetime sex offender status and nine and a half years of probation.
  • Court filings say he plans to live at his Palo Pinto County lakefront home during probation and must report to an officer and avoid alcohol, guns, and contact with felons.
  • Clemishire and her father are pursuing a defamation and cover-up case against Morris and Gateway Church, and the suit is paused pending a mandamus review sought by the church and its elders.
  • Morris has a separate lawsuit claiming Gateway promised him and his wife a $600,000 to $800,000 annual retirement package, and the church denies that claim and the Clemishires’ allegations.
