Overview
- Garmin officially announced the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro in a Play Harder livestream on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and set U.S. starting prices at $999.99 for the fēnix 9 and $1,099.99 for the fēnix 9 Pro with preorders opening Aug. 28.
- The hardware changes include standard AMOLED across the line with Pro panels rated up to 3,000 nits, a new lighter titanium main case on Pro models, doubled onboard storage to 64GB and increased RAM to speed map performance.
- Select fēnix 9 Pro configurations add built‑in inReach satellite and LTE for phone‑free texting, calling and SOS routing, with those services requiring a separate subscription and Garmin Response handling emergency coordination.
- Garmin also introduced new software and training tools such as Garmin Epic for grouping multi‑day activities, stamina zones and a stamina curve, plus improved indoor‑rowing and rucking metrics and a faster map engine.
- The launch has already pushed retailers to mark down fēnix 8 stock, creating a value path for buyers who do not need the new features, while real‑world battery life, sensor performance and software stability will determine upgrade appeal.
