Garlasco Case: Prosecutors Weigh Charges as Fresh Forensics Near and Sempio Remains the Named Suspect

Investigators are awaiting final DNA, bloodstain and computer findings that will guide whether to seek an indictment by spring.

Overview

  • Key technical reports are due in days, including RIS Cagliari DNA checks, a bloodstain pattern analysis, Cristina Cattaneo’s forensic report by late February, and a computer forensics review this week, which could also shape any bid to review Alberto Stasi’s final conviction.
  • Andrea Sempio remains the only person under investigation and, in a Tg1 interview, denied involvement and said neither he nor his friends ever saw the intimate video of Chiara Poggi and Alberto Stasi.
  • Prosecutors cite multiple elements against Sempio: DNA on Chiara’s fingernails attributed to the paternal Sempio line, a partial palm mark known as “impronta 33” on the basement stair wall, anomalous calls to the Poggi home, and an alibi ticket retrieved by his mother.
  • The defense argues the DNA could reflect contact transfer because Sempio frequented the villa, while prosecutors note the same nails showed no traces from Chiara’s close relatives or from Stasi.
  • Separately, Marco Panzarasa’s lawyers say magistrates have long established his complete non-involvement and they are evaluating action against what they call defamatory campaigns.
