Gardaí Recommence Search in Wicklow for Evidence in Two 1990s Murder Inquiries

Excavation followed by forensic testing will commence after a Defence Forces technical survey to recover material evidence for the long-running cases.

Overview

  • The Serious Crime Review Team and the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation began searching open ground near the WicklowKildare border on Monday and plan excavations and forensic examinations over the coming days.
  • The Defence Forces carried out a technical ground survey of the area last week under aid-to-civil-power arrangements and will not lead the criminal probe.
  • Gardaí said they informed and continue to update the families of Jo Jo Dullard and Deirdre Jacob about the recommenced operation.
  • This search follows a major February excavation at a disused Wicklow quarry that was prompted by information Gardaí deemed credible about a suspicious late-1990s burial or concealed remains.
  • Authorities have urgently appealed for public help and asked anyone with information to contact Kildare Garda station, any Garda station, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
