Overview
- Two intelligence-led operations on Tuesday led to separate seizures: 210kg of suspected cannabis in County Clare with an estimated value of €4.2m and a north Dublin haul of suspected diamorphine (heroin) priced at about €1.4m alongside smaller quantities of cannabis.
- Further searches in the Dublin area recovered additional suspected diamorphine with an estimated street value of about €70,000, bringing the combined police valuation of the seizures to roughly €5.688m.
- Three people are being held in connection with the inquiries — one man in his 40s in Clare and two men in Dublin — and two Dublin suspects have been charged and are due to appear in court.
- All seized substances have been sent or earmarked for analysis by Forensic Science Ireland and the Dublin detentions were reported under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as investigations continue.
- The operations were carried out jointly by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, local divisional drug units and Revenue's Customs Service, a co-ordinated approach that police say aims to disrupt organised supply and may lead to further arrests.
