Overview
- Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar opened the APtransco-built facility on January 5 in the presence of Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and other officials.
- APtransco says the substation was built for about ₹30.65 crore and is fitted with two 50 MVA transformers and advanced protection and control systems.
- The project is designed to meet rising demand from Gannavaram International Airport, including planned air traffic control facilities, as well as regional industrial, agricultural and residential loads.
- With commissioning, officials expect improved reliability for Gannavaram, Vijayawada Rural and Unguturu mandals, benefiting roughly 350,000 people with more stable domestic supply and nine hours of daytime power for agriculture.
- Authorities say the upgrade will address low-voltage issues, cut transmission losses from long 33 kV feeders, and provide uninterrupted, round-the-clock supply to the airport.
