Ganguly Backs BCCI Plan to Share Australia Tests Across Newer Venues

Ganguly says spreading Tests to newer cities fits a crowded season built on strong facilities.

Overview

  • Ganguly, speaking Tuesday at a Kolkata book event, endorsed the rotation policy even after Eden Gardens missed out on an Australia Test and cited recent matches there plus a packed schedule as reasons to share games.
  • The BCCI has fixed the five-Test Border–Gavaskar Trophy for January 21 to February 25, 2027, with matches in Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi and Ahmedabad.
  • Traditional hubs Kolkata and Mumbai were left out of the Test list and will stage only limited-overs games, including ODIs against Zimbabwe in early January 2027.
  • Emerging sites are gaining ground as Guwahati, which debuted in Tests in November 2025, prepares for a second match within about a year, with Ranchi and Ahmedabad also set for marquee fixtures.
  • The venue choices have revived an old split, with former spinner Venkatapathy Raju urging a return to five classic Test centers, a push that weighs tradition against giving more fans live access to the long format.
