Game Changer Season 8 Opens With a Legality Test

The opener tests fair-use parody to signal a pivot back to tighter gameplay.

Overview

  • Dropout’s flagship comedy game show returned with “Don’t Wake Standards & Practices,” a premiere built around seeing how far players can go without inviting fines or lawsuits.
  • Dropout’s legal team cleared risqué bits on the grounds that the episode comments on legality, including an approved cartoon that riffs on Mickey Mouse, the Death Star, and Nike and McDonald’s branding.
  • Three guest lawyers — Iya Baclagan, Alexis Noel, and Devin Stone — served as on-air judges brought in by casting rather than company counsel, and their calls sometimes contradicted what Dropout had already cleared.
  • CEO and host Sam Reich says Season 8 is built to feel more playable and competitive in order to “right-size” the series after a performance-heavy Season 7, with Episode 5 (“Count the Rice”) teased as especially out there.
  • Dropout is extending the format into homes through a recent Kickstarter for a party game, and new Game Changer episodes are slated to stream on Dropout.tv on alternating Mondays.
