Galician PAU Examiners Can Inspect Students' Items at Any Time

The change is meant to stop tech-enabled fraud by enforcing device bans through detectors plus an AI prohibition during the 2–4 June exams.

Overview

  • On Tuesday May 26 the Comisión Interuniversitaria de Galicia published an addendum that lets delegated-commission teachers request inspection of any student item "en calquera momento."
  • The addendum names common objects such as glasses, calculators and pens as inspectable to prevent new forms of cheating using connected eyewear, smart pens or advanced calculators.
  • CIUG reaffirmed that possession or use of any electronic device inside the exam room will result in expulsion from the PAU, costing the student that exam session.
  • Galician organizers will keep using network and frequency detectors that they have deployed since 2019 and will prohibit the use of artificial intelligence tools during the exams.
  • The measures apply to the PAU scheduled for 2–4 June with 13,441 students at 36 venues and are presented as a response to past expulsions for phone and smartwatch use, a step that could shape anti-cheating rules elsewhere.
