Overview
- In a letter dated November 11, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said relocating the Dahisar toll was not feasible under policy due to toll spacing norms, municipal-limit issues, and a bar on moving a local post onto a national highway.
- Days earlier, officials executed only a short relocation of roughly 20–100 metres and removed dividers while creating a heavy-vehicle lane to free space for additional booths and two planned approach lanes.
- NHAI previously rejected MSRDC’s proposal to shift the plaza by 2 km within the highway right of way, saying it did not conform with MoRTH Toll Fee Rules.
- The toll is operated by MEP Infrastructure Developers under a contract extended to September 17, 2029, which officials say limits any permanent relocation for now.
- Opposition leaders and local groups criticized the marginal move as ineffective, and many commuters reported little improvement even as ruling-party supporters hailed the action.
