Overview
- GAC Australia has confirmed a new entry-level Aion UT will arrive in late 2026 and that it will be priced below the current Aion UT.
- The variant uses a 44kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) 'Magazine Battery 2.0' pack and carries a manufacturer-claimed 320 km WLTP driving range.
- GAC says the model will undercut the existing Aion UT, which is priced from $31,990 driveaway, but the final Australian price and standard equipment are yet to be released.
- The company has not confirmed whether the smaller battery will come with a lower-power motor or reduced equipment; Chinese-market 44kWh UTs pair the pack with a weaker 100kW motor while Australian UTs currently use a 150kW motor.
- The move is part of a wider Australian push by GAC that includes plans for at least 10 more models and a 2027 dual-cab ute and could increase price pressure on rivals such as BYD, Geely and MG while making EV ownership more accessible for price-sensitive buyers.
