Funcom Pivots Dune: Awakening to PvE First, Disables Hagga Basin PvP on Official Servers

Player data showing most users avoid PvP drives a redesign that leaves combat optional for endgame rewards.

Overview

  • Funcom detailed a PvE-first shift for Dune: Awakening, with the changes slated for patch 1.3.20.0.
  • All official Worlds will offer two Deep Desert options, one PvE-only with no player combat and one PvP instance with open conflict and 2.5x resource yields.
  • In the PvE instance, Shipwrecks and other high-value areas will remain free of player combat to support exploration and progression without ganking.
  • Self-hosted servers will enter testing soon with adjustable rules like harvest rates, build limits, item durability, and decay, though the first release requires Windows 10/11 Pro with Hyper‑V to run a Linux VM.
  • The studio linked the pivot to long-running complaints about forced endgame PvP and noted a prior partial split in June 2025, while also pushing console versions to late 2026.
