Fugitive Linked to 2012 Wedding-Night Killing Brought From Mexico to Chicago

Returned after his 2025 arrest in Monterrey, he now faces state and federal charges while court dates and motive remain unresolved.

Overview

  • FBI Chicago announced Thursday that Arnoldo Jimenez was brought from Mexico into U.S. custody to face charges in Cook County and federal unlawful-flight counts.
  • Estrella Carrera, 26, was found stabbed in the bathtub of her Burbank apartment on May 13, 2012, less than 48 hours after she married Jimenez and reportedly still wearing her wedding dress.
  • Mexican authorities arrested Jimenez in Monterrey on Jan. 30, 2025, in an operation that involved Interpol and U.S. law enforcement partners.
  • Cook County prosecutors charged Jimenez with first-degree murder in 2012 and federal authorities later added an unlawful-flight-to-avoid-prosecution charge after he fled, and he had been on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list.
  • Law enforcement credited sustained cross-border cooperation for the repatriation and said investigators will now work with prosecutors to set initial U.S. court proceedings and review the evidence while the victim’s family awaits answers.
