Overview
- Peruvian police say Adolfo Ernesto Grosso Zamora has been transferred to Lima and placed in custody to face charges of aggravated homicide and involvement in an organized criminal group.
- Mexican authorities captured him on October 9 in the Las Maravillas area of Nezahualcóyotl during a joint operation involving Semar, SSPC, Sedena, FGR, the National Guard, INM and Interpol.
- The case stems from a March 16, 2016 ‘marca’ robbery in Rímac in which assailants opened fire on a patrol, killing sub-officers Gustavo Romero Zevallos and Yoeen Sánchez Anaya.
- Investigators say Grosso fled Peru the next day through Jorge Chávez airport and hid in Mexico using changing identities, leading Mexican authorities to approve his expulsion and coordinate his handover.
- Authorities link him to Los Gatilleros del Rímac, and note that killing a police officer qualifies as aggravated homicide in Peru with potential penalties of up to 35 years or life imprisonment.
