Fresh Clashes Hit Manipur’s Ukhrul Fringe, Two Civilians Injured

State leaders ordered heightened deployments following reports of renewed gunfire, with unverified mobilisation near Sinakeithei under review.

Overview

  • Two civilians were injured when an auto-rickshaw on the Tingpibung–Leplen road came under automatic gunfire near Sanakeithel, security sources said, after a separate pre-dawn firing at Shangkai reported no casualties.
  • Exchanges of fire between suspected Kuki groups and Tangkhul Naga volunteers were reported from Thursday in areas including Sinakeithei and Mongket Chepu, with intermittent shots into Friday morning.
  • The Sinakeithei Village Authority alleged Kuki militants opened fire from multiple directions around 3:20 pm Thursday using automatic weapons, while both sides traded accusations over who started the clash.
  • Local reports and drone clips pointing to armed mobilisation along the Leplen–Tingpibung axis and toward the Ihang River have surfaced but have not been independently verified.
  • In a separate incident on Friday, shots were fired at Meitei woodcutters near Pukhao in Imphal East with no injuries reported, as the chief minister held a high-level review and security forces increased their presence.
