Frenchman in 2011 Tel Aviv Hit-and-Run Case Shot Dead in Paris Suburb

The killing revives scrutiny of a decade-old hit-and-run case tried in France.

Overview

  • Two helmeted men on a scooter opened fire in Neuilly-sur-Seine around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, and he was treated at the scene before being pronounced dead at 10:10 a.m.
  • The shooters sped off within seconds, and Paris police launched a manhunt for the two suspects.
  • Authorities have not identified a motive, and investigators are testing possible links to Eric Robic’s criminal record.
  • Robic was widely known for the 2011 Tel Aviv crash that killed 25-year-old Lee Zeitouni, after which he fled to France within hours.
  • France does not extradite its nationals, so a Paris court tried the case and in 2014 convicted Robic of aggravated involuntary homicide, sentencing him to five years, as French media also noted his other convictions for fraud and assault.
