Freising Marks Completion of Inner-City Renewal as Mayor Sets Final Stone

The €38 million overhaul finished after nine years with €13.2 million in urban-development grants.

Overview

  • A public ceremony on December 17 saw Oberbürgermeister Tobias Eschenbacher place the final paving stone between Amtsgerichtsgasse and Marienplatz.
  • The project finished below the €41.37 million budget approval, and remaining access restrictions are slated to end by January 12, 2026.
  • Works delivered about 24,900 square meters of renewed surfaces with roughly 250,000 paving stones, 34 new trees, new lighting and seating, and an 83.45‑meter Moosach opening.
  • More than 100,000 hours of paving and around 26,000 hours of planning were logged across three main contractors: Storz, Wadle Bau and Stanglmeier.
  • The traffic concept remains unresolved, with pushes for a full pedestrian zone and a planned citizen initiative as officials report removing about 90% of car traffic from the center.
