Overview
- After a record 69 days of talks, Frederiksen reached an agreement to lead a four‑party centre‑left coalition made up of the Social Democrats, the Socialist People's Party, the Moderates and the Radical Left that together hold 82 of 179 seats.
- Frederiksen notified King Frederik X of the deal and has announced the new cabinet roster, which features 21 ministers and, for the first time in Danish history, a majority of women in the ministerial team.
- The Moderates played the decisive kingmaker role and keep key influence in government with their leader retaining the foreign ministry portfolio.
- The coalition program combines social and green measures such as free public transport for under‑22s, expanded dental care and VAT cuts on food with business tax relief, tougher immigration rules and continued defence support for Ukraine.
- Because the four‑party bloc lacks a working majority it will rely on external support from left‑ecologist parties and face ongoing negotiation to pass legislation in a highly fragmented Folketing that returned a record number of parties in March.
