- HKIFFS announced on Friday that Fred Tsui will succeed Albert Lee and formally take the executive director post on Sept. 23, reporting to chairman Dr. Wilfred Wong and the board.
- In his role Tsui will oversee the Hong Kong International Film Festival and the society’s year‑round initiatives, including the Hong Kong–Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), the HAF Film Lab, the Summer International Film Festival and the HKIFF Cine Fan strand.
- Tsui is founder and CEO of Moebius Entertainment and brings more than three decades in sales, co‑production, distribution and media management from long tenures at Media Asia Film and senior roles at PCCW and Asia Television.
- Moebius recently boarded worldwide sales for Michelle Zhou’s Big Little Things, selected for Venice Horizons, and secured sales rights outside Taiwan for Happily Ever After before its Toronto screening.
- HKIFFS says the appointment is intended to tighten links between festival programming and international markets, and the new director’s first HKIFF edition will be the festival’s 51st next March, making industry strategy and talent development areas to watch.
