Overview
- Naval Group said SSN De Grasse conducted its first at-sea trial on 24 February 2026 off Cherbourg following dockside preparations.
- The submarine was launched in May 2025, and its nuclear reactor was commissioned in December 2025.
- A series of additional sea trials will validate propulsion and combat systems before delivery to the French Navy later this year.
- De Grasse features a new version of the SYCOBS combat management system and a next-generation electronic-warfare suite, according to the French submarine forces commander.
- The Barracuda program now has three boats in service with two more under construction for delivery through the end of the decade, fielding SSNs armed with NCM cruise missiles, F21 torpedoes and SM39 anti-ship missiles.
