France to Refund 12.6 Million Households for 2025 Income Tax Overpayments

The payouts will ease household cash flow ahead of scheduled tax collections from late September.

Overview

  • The ministry said on Wednesday that about 12.6 million tax households will receive refunds averaging €1,057, with most transfers hitting bank accounts on 24 or 31 July.
  • Refunds will be paid automatically to the bank account the tax authority has on file and will be sent by cheque by post if no account is recorded.
  • Bank statements will identify the payments as coming from 'DGFIP FINANCES PUBLIQUES' with the label 'REMB IMPOT REVENUS', so recipients can spot the deposit.
  • Taxpayers who underpaid will be debited from late September, with amounts of €300 or less taken in a single prélèvement and larger balances split into four monthly debits through December.
  • The reconciliation follows annual declarations under withholding at source, and recipients are typically households whose 2025 income, family situation, or eligible tax credits reduced their final tax compared with amounts already collected.
